This has been in the works for a while but my new role at Microsoft was publicly announced on Friday -- I'll be taking on a new responsibility as CTO for the Microsoft IT organization.
Microsoft's IT group supports one of the world's largest and most influential technology companies and the challenges, ranging from supporting a global workforce to creating and maintaining environmentally sustainable data centers to building applications that support a worldwide user base, are immense, and immensely exciting. We base our business operations, of course, on Microsoft software -- we play an important role as Microsoft's "First and Best Customer" -- and thus we prove the enterprise-worthiness of our products every single day.
We're doing a lot of things that we think are innovative, and new: but we also think we can learn a lot from our industry colleagues, so I expect to be "out and about" a fair amount, and am looking forward to meeting you! (My next event will be the Canadian Strategic Architecture Forum in April, and there will be many more such events to come.)
