I've been playing with LinkedIn the last few days and I have to say I'm getting hooked on it. Being of a certain age, I've found it lots of fun to find where all those folks I used to work with are these days. I have no idea how they're going to monetize it -- pretty much the same for all these "social networks" that are so much in vogue -- but it's fun for now.
UPDATE: Brad Feld (in comments) points to his post about social networking. He writes:
My conclusion is that the current construct of social networking is a feature of a product. So - the concept of a "social networking company" doesn't make sense to me. When combined with something like a blog search engine, you start to get somewhere.
Yeah -- I agree. As I mentioned, I can't imagine how these guys are going to monetize and become commercial successes, but maybe their business plans call for an acquisition-style exit, and there's probably somebody that thinks having a half-million or so execs in a database is "valuable." (Scary, when you think about the possibilities, isn't it?).
